Welcome to the CogNeVision Lab! The cognitive neuroscience of vision, face perception, and real-world experience encompasses the scope of this lab's research.
We combine behavioural testing, eye-tracking (including mobile eye-tracking), and EEG to study face perception, capturing not just what people do, but where they look and what the brain is doing while they do it.
Most face perception research happens under carefully controlled lab conditions, but not where faces are actually encountered day to day. We're increasingly interested in pushing this work toward more naturalistic settings, where attention, context, and real-world clutter all shape perception in ways lab stimuli do not capture.
Face perception research isn't only theoretical. Errors in face recognition have real consequences, such as in eyewitness identification, where the same cognitive processes we study in the lab can determine whether someone is correctly identified, or wrongly accused.
